Tours and Nearby Attractions

Special motor coach tours are being organized for registered attendees of the Reunion. On Friday, September 19, buses will depart the headquarters hotel several times during the day for tours of the former Goodyear-Zeppelin Airdock and the Wingfoot Lake Blimp Base owned and operated by the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.

In addition to visiting these historic LTA landmarks, some tours will also include visits to the Professional Football Hall of Fame in Canton (where legends of the gridiron come to life in multi-media displays that chronicle the development of the most popular professional sport in the U.S.) and the nearby Harry London Chocolate Factory.

Several of the scheduled tours feature lunch on the grounds of Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, the English Tudor-style mansion of Goodyear co-founder Frank A. Seiberling. Participants will have an opportunity to tour the residence, famous for its grand furnishings and elegant gardens. Other destinations may be added, depending on the time available, so check this space soon for complete details!

On Friday evening, Reunion attendees will have the option of attending the Carousel Dinner Theater production of George Gershwin's musical comedy Crazy for You. Group transportation to and from the HQ hotel will be available.

On Saturday morning, September 20, a tour designed especially for the ladies will visit the Kent State University Museum, which houses a fashion collection featuring creations from world-renowned designers.

More Things to Do

For those who wish to explore on their own, the area offers a wide variety of attractions (All of these attractions are within one hour of our headquarters hotel):

Akron is home to Inventure Place, home of the National Inventors Hall of Fame. The newest bright spot on the Akron skyline, this 29,000 sq. ft. museum houses interactive exhibits tracing American ingenuity from its earliest beginnings to the inventions of tomorrow. This fun-for-all ages attraction is only 15 minutes from our headquarters hotel.

Hale Farm and Gardens, a living history museum, recreates life in northeast Ohio in the 1820s.

Aurora Farms Factory Outlet is a shopping mall with over 60 stores selling wares ranging from apparel to china and crystal at savings of 25% to 65%.

The Military Aviation Preservation Society Air Museum and aircraft restoration shop is located on the Akron-Canton Airport. Current projects include a B-26A bomber, MiG 17 (Lim 6) fighter, and a pair of Douglas SBD dive bombers. The museum features a working Link trainer, SCUD missile artifacts from Desert Storm, and LTA memorabilia.

It is not all that far from Cleveland, with the world-class museums of University Circle in Cleveland. These include the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum, and others. Also nearby: the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and The Rain Forest, the Steamship William G. Mather Museum (a docked Lake Erie ore boat), the Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area, NASA Lewis Research Center, Great Lakes Science Center, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum...

Reunion attendees can bowl at Riviera Lanes, recent home of the PBA Tournament of Champions, located just two blocks from our two hotels. If time permits, visitors can take in a show at the E. J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall or the landmark 1928 Civic Theater movie palace (both in downtown Akron). There are also three multiplex cinemas within two miles of the hotels, as are more than fifty restaurants. A newly-renovated shopping mall also faces the headquarters hotel.
