U.S. Navy Non-Rigid Airships: M-1


The M-1, a 625,000 cubic foot airship, was contracted for on September 11, 1943. The new design incorporated four ballonets for pressure maintenance and trim control. Its three-section, articulated control car improved catenary loading. Designed for increased range operations, M-1 demonstrated its non-refueled endurance beginning on October 27, 1946, flying non-stop for 170.3 hours.
