
Captain M. Henry Eppes served as commanding officer of
airship squadrons during and after World War II.
He was pilot of ZPG-2 (1), a 975,000 cubic foot airship
which in May 1954, demonstrated its endurance in an unrefueled flight of 200.2 hours.
For his achievement Captain Eppes, then a Commander,
received the Harmon International Trophy. |

Captain Harold B. Van Gorder completed lighter-than-air
flight training in 1943.
During World War II he commanded four different airship
squadrons.
After the war he was commanding officer of Naval
Airship Training Command and commanded the historic Arctic flight of the ZPG-2 (4)
"Snow Goose." |
