F9C Sparrowhawk
One of the unique features of Akron and Macon was their capability to launch, recover and house five fixed wing aircraft. The airship's planes were equipped with sky hooks that enabled them to be launched or recovered aboard the airship by means of a trapeze. The planes extended the airship's enormous scouting range far beyond any aircraft of its day and provided fighter protection for their home bases - Akron and Macon.
