Naval Airship Air-Sea Rescue
On Navy Day, October 27, 1945, thousands of Charlestonians viewed an airship air-sea rescue demonstration from the Battery. Navy airship, K-118, piloted by Lieutenant John Fahey, retrieved a man from the waters between the Battery and Fort Sumter.
